Margaux the helper

Margaux really tries to help whenever she can. Its really stinking cute!

Yesterday I was unloading the dishwasher and one of my mixing bowls that goes in “her” drawer was on the lower shelf near where she was standing.  I asked her if she could take the bowl and put it away in the drawer. And sure enough, she picked it up, went right to her drawer and put it away! She was so proud of herself. Just really sweet!

She’s still a great eater and does well with veggies and a lot of variety.

I never updated on her 15-month appointment last week either. It was not fun! An older girl was crying in the treatment room when we arrived so as soon as we went back Margaux started bawling. Lots of drama!

Beyond that she is perfectly healthy! 25lbs 2oz (or so, she was screaming on the scale!) & 31″ tall. About 70% for both! :)

The sweetest things

I’m so behind updating here. I want to do it more b/c I’m sure I’ll forget so many little things. So speaking of little things, Margaux walked without thinking about it today! She was playing by the couch, grabbed her stuffed piggie, and walked over to her little chair. It was a good 5 or so steps of just walking! No coaxing, no holding my hands out, just her doing what came natural. So cool!

Also on Sunday or Monday when I put her down, I was leaving her room and I *swear* she said “Night night Mama”. Swoon, makes you heart happy!

So back tracking a little, M had her 1-yr appt on Feb 10. She weighed in at 23lb 14 oz (90%) and 30″ (85%). She got a bunch of shots which wasn’t so fun. Then a few days later we had to get her blood drawn for the lead & anemia test. That was AWFUL. It wasn’t the blood draw that was so bad, it was the techs trying to hold her arm out, me trying to keep her still, etc. She was NOT happy, sobbing & upset. Poor thing.

We have a great movie I need to edit and hope to post soon! Its fun, I promise you’ll enjoy this trip to the mailbox.

9-Month Stats

We had Margaux’s 9-month appointment yesterday.  When Dr. Soloman walked in she started clapping and he was very impressed. ;-) She started clapping this week and claps all the time, its really cute!

Margaux is doing just fantastic! Growing like a champ and still sleeping through the night wonderfully.  She has been trying to go without naps but hopefully its a phase.

Her stats:

  • Height: 29″ (90%-ile)
  • Weight: 20llbs 14oz (80%-ile)

I thought she was going to weigh more but you just never know.

Oh and he pointed out where her teeth are starting to swell to come thru. The two bottom fronts.  So exciting!

4 Month Appointment

Margaux had her four-month appointment today and she is getting so big!  Her stats are:

  • 15 lbs 5 oz
  • 25″ long
  • 41 cm head circumference

Though the charts vary she is about 85% for both height and weight it looks like.  (Another one I have says 75% weight and 65% height).

Dr. Soloman is totally happy with her growth and development.  He thinks we may have an early walker on our hands based on her love of rolling already.  My Mom just confirmed I walked by about 9 months so its certainly possible.  He said we can start solids anytime we think she’s ready (and said to just watch if she gets really interested in us eating, etc) but he thought realistically between 5-6 months.

We are just happy she’s doing so well!  :-)

Roley Poley Girl

Brad caught the roller on video!  I couldn’t add any music because Brad is so cute to listen to!  And check out how Margaux is really pushing the limits on that 3-6 month Gap footed onesie.   And notice that heavy drool – the girl must be pre-teething. :-)

As a side note, today was Brad’s first full day at home alone with Margaux.  They did great!  She rolled over for him, she went with him to Java One and met a bunch of his co-workers, and had a fun day.  She didn’t nap much though – but she’s a trooper.

2 month Ped Visit

Margaux had her 2 month pediatrician appointment today!  Its so great to see how she’s growing.  The doctor said she’s “thriving!”  :-)

Stats:

  • 11 lbs 11 oz – about 75%
  • 22.5″ long – about 70%
  • 39.3 cm head circumference

We decided to follow the standard vaccination schedule so she had 2 shots and an oral gel today.  Poor girl, she was so happy and cooing with the doctor then the nurse came in and gave her shots and she didn’t know what stuck her.  Her face got bright red and the screaming was intense.  But she was quickly calmed and she did great.

She and I had a nice nap when we got home.  Hey – that was hard for Mom too!  ;-)   Next appointment is at 4 months.

1 Month Pediatrician Appt

Margaux had her 1 month pediatrician appointment today!  She is doing fantastic:

Weight: 9 lbs. 12 oz. (she’s gained almost 2 lbs since birth!)

Length: 20.25 in.

She had to have 1 shot (Hep B) and wasn’t a big fan.  The poor girl was hungry too when she got her shot so she was pretty upset.  As soon as she ate she conked out though and is happy as a clam again.

She has also been eating really frequently still (every 2-3 hours) and the doc confirmed she is probably having a growth spurt.  He said she looks wonderful! :-)

Oh also, he said she will probably start social smiling at 6 weeks (where she smiles back at you purposefully).  I can’t wait for that!  I mentioned she smiles now some “from gas” and he was quick to tell me it isn’t from gas but really b/c she’s happy or content and that it is purposeful, just not “social”.  So fun – I can’t wait for more smiles! :-D

Margaux

Margaux is a little over 3 weeks old now and she is such a love bug!  She is really the sweetest little girl and we are so lucky in so many ways. :-D   I wish I had started this sooner but I’ll try to do a recap of the first few weeks so I have them recorded.

  • Feb 7: birth day!
  • Feb 8: Jamie K came to visit us in the hospital
  • Feb 9: headed home from the hospital
  • Feb 11: home nurse came to check on Margaux and I – good report: jaundice was subsiding, weight was OK
  • Feb 12: my Dad arrived (my Mom was already here on Feb 6)
  • Feb 13: massage for ME!
  • Feb 18: Mom & Dad headed back to Portland; David & JP came to meet Margaux
  • Feb 19: 1st pediatrician appt, weight was up to 7lbs 14oz., good report all in all
  • Feb 20: Glenna & Carrol arrived; I had to leave Margaux to go to an interview (she did just fine without me)
  • Feb 22: Brad left town for Austin; Glenna & Carrol headed back to Portland
  • Feb 24: Brad returned home
  • Feb 26: Weight check at pediatrician’s office – up to 8.5lbs! Dr. Solomon wants Margaux to get an US to check out a small click in her left hip but he thinks it will be nothing.
  • Feb 27: I had an interview in Mountain View, Brad gave Margaux her first bottle (pumped milk) and she did great with it
  • Feb 28: 1st dinner out with Jon & Nora (at Pauline’s Pizza)

Margaux seems to have really entered her 3 week growth spurt now.  She has been eating a lot more often and is more anxious to be held or comforted in the past day.  She really has been growing so well and just is doing great.  She’s also incredibly strong and has been holding her head up since day 1.  Now its even more pronounced and purposeful though.  She seems to enjoy tummy time (in small doses) and is a very talkative little one.  She makes all kinds of funny noises and squeaks, esp. while sleeping.  It might be annoying if it wasn’t so cute! ;-)

I’ll finish this first post with one of my fav photos of Margaux:
